In this quick tutorial, I’m going to show you how you can start blogging on WordPress.
what I’ll be covering are:
- What is WordPress?
- How to setup WordPress Hosting?
- How to write your first blog post in WordPress
Alright, are you ready? Let’s dive in.
So What is WordPress?
WordPress is Software that helps you build websites without needing to know how to code.
Simply put, when buying a hosting platform for your WordPress, that hosting platform installs the latest version of WordPress for you and you can go from there.
WordPress Hosting Platforms
Now there are too many hosting platforms out there, and they all have their pros and cons.
I’m not going into too many details about that. This tutorial is more about how to get up and running with WordPress. You can do your own research about the hosting platforms and choose what fits you the best.
I myself use EasyWP from Namecheap. It is quite fast and cheap. You can use that or you can go with GoDaddy or Bluehost.
Hint about GoDaddy, if you don’t have a domain with GoDaddy, don’t buy one, you’ll get one for free when you buy hosting.
How To Setup Hosting
Once you decide on what platform to use for hosting, simply buy the package that best suits you and the hosting platform will take care of the rest.
When the installation is done, you’ll either need to create a login and password for your WPAdmin. Or you can simply, use the same login and password that you used for your hosting platform. It depends on the platform you are using.
Writing Your Very First Blog
Now that you have access to your WPAdmin let’s have a look around.
So on the left sidebar, you’ll see all the settings, plugins and menus that you get by default from WordPress and your hosting platform.
Next, I’d like to point your attention to the Posts and Pages sections.
Pages are basically the main pages of your websites, such as the home page, Terms and Services page, About us page, etc.
The posts are simply the blog and articles that you write and host on your website.
Your Very First Blog Post
Alright, go ahead click on the posts, and then click on add new. This is how you create a new post.
Once it loads, you can see all the way at the top, you have your Title and just below that is your paragraph.
The title is the main headline of your blog. It should contain your Keyword and it should also be written in an engaging way. That is why I use a headline helper all the time to check my headlines.
Now as you can see there are a lot of elements that you can add to your blog.
You can almost anything from a simple paragraphs to piece of HTML code. You can embed signup forms, YouTube videos and much more.
That is for it today.
