In this post, I’m going to talk about what Affiliate Marketing actually is and how you can start your own affiliate business.
This is going to be a very high-level 30,000ft view of the whole affiliate marketing ecosystem. I’ll be introducing the main parts involved in an affiliate business plus you’ll get to know some of the terms and terminology that we use in affiliate marketing. So stick around cause this blog will be worth your time.

What is Affiliate Marketing
In a nutshell, affiliate marketing is basically an offer, which can be a product or course (either digital or physical) to some specific audience.
Our job as affiliate marketers is to match the traffic and audience to the traffic for the best conversion and ROI (return on investment). That is it. We are not tied into a specific offer, the offer is not our business, our business is our audience and how we communicate with them.
Affiliate Marketing – 3 Pieces
3 main steps are involved in affiliate marketing:
1. Is your Traffic or Eyeballs
2. Your Sales funnel
3. Your Offer
I know some of you might be shouting right now and saying there are a lot more to it than that, I hear you, and you’re not wrong. However, these are the 3 main steps that each affiliate marketer needs to know and master.
So let’s go into a little bit more details.
Traffic
First, let’s talk a little bit about traffic.
What is traffic?
Traffic is simply the eyeballs that you get into your offer online. In general, we have 2 types of traffic, free and paid.
Free Traffic
Is the traffic that you get for free. Just to mention, this is not actually free. You need to have established digital assets or digital real estate to be able to pull a lot of free traffic. And building those digital assets takes time and effort. So technically you’ve already paid for your free traffic with your time.
Paid Traffic
Is the traffic that you buy from different sources. See, traffic is a commodity, like gold, iron, food. You can pay for it. And based on how much you pay, the quality and quantity of the traffic would differ. Some sources are paid traffic are and are not limited to, Facebook, Google and Microsoft bing.
Sales Funnel
Once you sort out your traffic, it is time to funnel that traffic to your sales funnels. Here is where the magic happens. Your sales funnel further filter out the traffic and capture only those who are interested in your offer.
The main purpose of the sales funnel is to match the traffic to the offer and capture who are most interested in our solution or offer.
Offer
Once the traffic passed the sales funnel and permitted you to send them more information about the offer, they’ll then be land on your offer.
As an affiliate marker, you’re done with constructing the main 3 pieces of your business. Now it’s time to re-visit, test and optimise those steps.
